Peter C. Clapman, of Bethesda, passed away of COVID complications on Feb 9. He was 84. As senior vice president and chief investment counsel at the retirement investment firm TIAA, Peter was a leader in the movement of institutional investors to challenge ineffective or dishonest company management. After spearheading reforms in the United States, he helped knit together major investors abroad into the International Corporate Governance Network. Since retirement, his expertise has been sought by the U.S. National Association of Corporate Directors, the IRRC Institute, the AARP mutual funds board, among others.

Peter was born in Kew Gardens, Queens, attended Stuyvesant High School, Princeton and Harvard Law School.

Devoted husband of 55 years to Barbara Clapman; loving father of Leah (Richard) and Alice (Robert); and cherished grandfather of Simon, Eve, Zack and Felix. Donations made to Jewish Social Service Agency or Capital Area Food Bank. Arrangements entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
