Richard Shafritz, of Atlanta, died on July 31 from a rare form of melanoma. He was 53. Rich grew up in Silver Spring, attending Springbrook High School. Rich was a CPA, worked for Arthur Anderson and graduated from Georgia State University law school. He met his wife, Stacy, at the University of Maryland, where he graduated magna cum laude. With his law school friend, Rich stated a real estate law firm called Shafritz & Dean.

In addition to his wife of 29 years, he is survived by his sons, Joseph, Sammy and Noah; his parents, Stephen and Jane Shafritz, of Silver Spring, and Marcia and Stu Sherman, of Silver Spring; his sister, Stephanie (Chad) Older, of Gaithersburg; and brothers Jeff (Erin) Shafritz and Terry (Robin) Sherman.

He is also survived by his dear uncles and aunts, Dr. Bruce and Robin Bortnick, Gary and Debby Bortnick, and Sandy Greer and Bobbie Feldman, both of Silver Spring; and nine nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. Also mourning Rich are his in-laws, Sidney and Gayle Green, of Atlanta, Lisa Klausman, sister-in-law of Atlanta, and Scott (Kathy) Green, brother-in-law from Birmingham, Ala.
