Ronald S. Fishman, M.D., of Potomac, died on March 2 of complications related to glioblastoma. He was 86. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marcia Sclar, in 1986 and after her death by his second wife, Marilyn Miller, in 2021. Ron was born and educated in Chicago, where he received his M.D. from the University of Illinois Medical School, where he also completed his internship and ophthalmology residency. After uniformed service in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps at the National Institutes of Health, he completed a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the University of Florida. He returned to D.C. to start a private practice in ophthalmology as well as an academic appointment at GW School of Medicine, including responsibility for the residency program at Washington Hospital Center. He wrote more than 30 scientific articles in ophthalmology and in the history of science. He was an active member and one time president of the Cogan Ophthalmic History Society. H

Cherished grandfather of Marisa and Jake Silverman; Alexander and Thomas Fishman; Eden, Alanna and Olivia Fishman; Adam and Ola Miller; and Evan and Noah Mack.
