Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center announced Wednesday afternoon the hiring of a new chief executive officer.
Dava Schub, associate executive director and chief program officer at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, will begin work at the Edlavitch JCC on Sept. 1, according to an email from Board President Saul Pilchen and Jill Granader, chair of the search committee.
Schub will succeed Carole Zawatsky, who was the center’s chief executive for nine years. Pilchen and Granader credited Zawatsky with creating “high level and expansive programming for our diverse community.”
A 25-year JCC veteran, Schub, during her tenure at JCC Manhattan, ” purchased and launched Camp Settoga (a 21-acre property in Rockland County), opened the doors of JCC Harlem, and funded and developed Centers for Social Responsibility and Positive Aging. On the side, Dava has served for over fifteen years as the co-chair of an interfaith community based homeless shelter, engaging hundreds of New Yorkers each year in hosting and feeding overnight shelter guests,” according to the email.
“Dava graduated from the University of Wisconsin and earned a masters degree at Yeshiva University, in Social Work. Dava is a mom to an amazing almost-nine-year-old girl,” the email said.
Schub will be visiting Washington in the coming weeks to meet with community members, in person and virtually, to convey her vision for the center, Pilchen and Granader wrote.
