An aeronautical and mechanical engineer and a consultant on military affairs who lived North Chevy Chase, he died Friday, Oct. 11 at Holy Cross Hospital of heart failure. He is survived by his wife Gertrude “Trudy” Deitchman and daughter Elaine Deitchman and Marsha Fernandez; his brother Jack Deitchman, as well as two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. He worked for the Institute for Defense Analysis for 28 years as well as for ARPA and the Office of the Secretary of Defense in R&D. He also consulted for various U.S. government and NATO advisory panels, the Atlantic Council and the Naval Studies Board of the National Academies\National Research Council. He was the author of six books. and numerous published papers on national security matters. A private family service is planned.
