Supports victims of domestic abuse in becoming empowered and obtaining safe environments by providing a helpline, crisis counseling, safety planning, support groups, information and referral services to all victims of abuse — women, men, teens and children — in the Greater Washington, D.C., area. Educates community members and professionals about domestic abuse and appropriate responses to it through trainings for clergy, educators, community leaders, sisterhoods, men’s clubs and social action committees. Works to prevent future generations from suffering domestic abuse by offering healthy relationship programs for teens at camps, Jewish day and public schools, religious schools, Hillels and youth groups. JCADA is committed to providing high quality services to all residents of the Greater Washington DC Jewish community as well as the community at large without regard to ability, background, faith, gender or sexual orientation.

JSSA Counseling Services
JSSA has been helping people across the Washington metropolitan area meet emotional, social, and physical challenges for more than 120 years. A nonsectarian provider, JSSA serves people of all religious backgrounds, races and ethnicities, helping the youngest child to the most fragile senior, from individuals to entire families. JSSA provides services and support to more than 37,000 individuals and families a year through a wide range of counseling, educational, employment, in-home support, hospice and nursing care, and social services.

Adoption Options is a licensed child-placing agency in Maryland and Virginia providing resources for adoptees and adopting families; offering information about adoption options; exploring the details of domestic agency, private or international adoption; and reaching informed decisions on achieving adoption goals. Services include private consultations to identify adoption alternatives; complete and thorough home studies meeting all domestic and international jurisdictional and legal requirements, as well as those of the USCIS and the courts; home studies for embryo adoption/placement; psychosocial assessments of surrogates and birth parents for private adoption; required post-placement supervision for domestic and international adoptions and court reports for re-finalization in Virginia; support and guidance throughout the adoption process; counseling for birth parents; counseling for adult adoptees and their families and adult adoptees and birth parent searches placed through JSSA.

Hospice provides professional and volunteer support that allows terminally ill individuals to spend their final days in the comfort of their homes, senior residences or nursing homes. Hospice provides skilled nursing care and personal assistance; 24-hour/7-day availability; weekend admissions; emotional/spiritual support for patient and family; bereavement support. Transitions is an all-volunteer program that provides companionship and support to patients and their families coping with serious illness.

Jewish Chaplaincy Services (JCS) provides skilled pastoral and spiritual care at nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals, and prisons not under Jewish auspices. JCS’s team of professionally trained chaplains leads Shabbat and holiday services, provides 1-on-1 visitation, offers Jewish resources and facilitates discussion groups. JCS also provides rabbinic services for Chesed Shel Emet (Hebrew Free Burial Society) and administrative services for the Washington Board of Rabbis.

JSSA’s employment and career services assist people of all ages and career backgrounds, who are unemployed or underemployed, career changers, youth in need of career guidance and newly arrived émigrés. JSSA offers group and individual services designed around a personal employment strategy including creating an effective resume, interview, networking and job search skill development, one-on-one career coaching and life coaching. Career testing is also available. JSSA offers monthly workshops on a variety of topics, one and two-day intensive general and specialized job search boot camps, job search networking groups in MD, DC and NoVA, LinkedIn coaching and workshops, career seminars, job search workshops at libraries and community centers and access to a free community on-line job board. Many services are free or cost a nominal fee, and fee adjustments may be available for other services. And JSSA’s JLink program provides a confidential free session with a career/life coach to help you develop your “action plan” for moving your career forward. JSSA’s supported employment for individuals with disabilities offers customized services including vocational assessment, a work readiness group program, job development and placement and ongoing job coaching support. Ongoing services are ideal for those whose goal is community-based competitive employment.
