Stanley Joseph Scherr, of Boca Raton, Fla., and Rockville, passed away on July 15. Predeceased by his mother, Libbie Scherr, and father, Albert Scherr; beloved husband of the late Glorya Sackett Scherr; devoted father of Dean (Karen) Scherr, Dyan (Daniel) Gracia and Debbi (Michael) Rubin; loving companion of Diane Mattox Rosenberg; cherished grandfather of Bryan (Lauren) Scherr, Rori (Michael) Brown, Rachelle (Bradley) Rohner, Tracie (Anthony) Pirraglia, Jessica (Andy) Wildman, Kevin Simon, Jonathan (Lindsay) Gracia, Adam (Stacey) Gracia, Ryan (Samantha) Gracia; and adored by his 17 great-grandchildren.
Stanley was raised in Alexandria. Shortly after graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Navy and entered training to become a pilot. He was honorably discharged April 7, 1946, after serving on board the CVE-100 Bouganville as a pilot of a TBM-3 Avenger, flying missions over the Pacific. Stanley was a pioneer in establishing the Furniture Rental Business. He was an avid golfer and had his second hole-in-one at age 93.
