Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli is used to being judged on camera, but now she is turning the tables. She’ll be a judge in the Foreign Ministry and Embassy of Israel’s first video competition, designed to spark American college students to share their passion for Israel. The grand prize winner will be flown to Israel to show his or her video to President of Israel Reuven Rivlin.
“It’s an historic opportunity. It’s the first time the Israeli Embassy and the pro-Israel community are doing this kind of project in which we are asking to receive student ideas and content of what inspires them about Israel,” said Oren Marmorstein, counselor for public and academic affairs at the Embassy of Israel in Washington. “And the prize is also unprecedented in the sense that the winner will get to meet the president of the state of Israel.”
Other competition judges include Israeli Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer; Israeli musician, composer and CEO and founder of Israeli start-up Interlude Yoni Bloch; and Yael Efrati, artist and professor of photography at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem.
Entrants are being asked to submit a video of 90 seconds or less to the Israel in the USA Facebook page at Isra.li/video. Participants must be at least 18 year of age, residents of the United States and currently enrolled in an accredited two-to-four year college or university.
The three finalists will win a trip to Washington to meet privately with Dermer and attend the embassy’s official Independence Day celebration.
The deadline for submissions is March 27.
