Talia Shemony, daughter of Debbie and Eli Shemony of North Bethesda, became a bat mitzvah on Nov. 16 at Magen David Sephardic Congregation in Rockville. Joining in the simcha were brothers Benjamin and Nathaniel, sister Neely and grandparents Miriam Gavin-Kalinsky of Forest Hills, N.Y., and Yehudit Shemony of Netanya, Israel. For her mitzvah project, Talia collected blankets and stuffed animals for a project she called “Cozies and Comfies” to distribute to children affected by natural disasters in the U.S. She is a seventh-grader at Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville.
