Dr. Hubert J. Alpert
On Friday, June 21, Dr. Hubert J. Alpert of Rockville. Beloved husband of Joan Alpert; devoted father of Helene Alpert Furani, Charles and Henry; beloved brother of Harriet Luts. Seymour S. “Si” Cohen

On Wednesday, June 19, Seymour S. “Si” Cohen of Olney. Beloved husband of Nancy Cohen; devoted father of Beth (Michael) Singer, David (Monya) Cohen and the late Leah Cohen; loving grandfather of Abigail, Shira, and Aryeh Singer. A graduate of the University of Florida, he made crucial scientific advancements for the U.S. Navy that helped win World War II. He was also a dedicated social worker for BBYO and B’nai B’rith International.

Morris “Macky” Dubin

On Wednesday, June 19, Morris “Macky” Dubin of Silver Spring. He was married for 57 years to the love of his life, the late Zelda Dubin. Macky had a career as a sales manager and stellar car salesman at Manhattan Auto. He was a member of the Leisure World Lion’s Club and Jewish War Veterans. He had a passion for his family, Washington Nationals and Redskins, and good food. He is survived by his loving children Steve (Miriam) Dubin and Alan (Elaine) Dubin; devoted grandchildren Marla Anne Dubin, Melanie (Dave) Augustin, Rebecca (Jesse) Richa, Ashley Dubin and Scott Dubin; adored great-grandchildren Bailey Michelle Richa, and Izabella and Nathan Augustin; and his dear siblings, Sylvia Swesnik and Harry (Edie) Dubin. Sally Ellis

On Monday, June 17, Sally Ellis of Delray Beach, Fla., formerly of Chevy Chase. She was the devoted wife of the late Jim Ellis; mother to David (Stephanie) Ellis, Joan (Morrie) Berger and Jeffrey (Vicki) Ellis; loving gram to 16 grandchildren; gigi to 33 great grandchildren; and Aunt Sal to Stephen (Rae) Silver, Robert (Jane) Isaacson, Elaine (Paul) Tendler, George (Kay) Glendening, Jim Glendening and Trudy Durkac. She is survived by her loving sister Ruth Silver (the late Philip Silver) of Silver Spring. Sally (Sara, Sal) was born in Braddock, Pa., and moved to Washington in 1935. She retired as an executive secretary to the assistant general counsel of the FCC in 1975. Through the years, Sally’s personality, sincerity and wit created many long-term relationships. Her wide interests included volunteer work at Temple Shalom, The White House and Red Cross. In retirement, she traveled extensively and was blessed with excellent health for 95 of her 98 years. Estelle Gottesman

On Monday, June 17, Estelle Gottesman of Bethesda. Beloved wife of George Gottesman; devoted sister of Jerold (the late Susanne) Roschwalb; cherished aunt of Mila (Scott) Becker and Sara (Michael) Gordon; loving great-aunt of Sophia, Alexandra, Ila and Gil. Berton Alfred Heiserman

On Saturday, June 22, Berton Alfred Heiserman of Kensington. Owner of Pen Haven, a vintage fountain pen store in Kensington, he is survived by his wife, Alice; his son Jason; his daughter-in-law Lauren; and two grandchildren, Mallory and Matthew. Bert was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and a loyal friend to many. Bert earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Howard University and designed and built many gorgeous homes in Montgomery County. He owned and operated Meadows Deli in Silver Spring. Yet, for the past 24 years, he has been the owner of Pen Haven, where he managed to turn his hobby into a rewarding career. Bert was recognized internationally as one of the foremost authorities on vintage fountain pens. Bert is also remembered by his former wife Susan, brother Michael, sister-in-law Marlyn, and by his step-daughter Juliette, her husband Fabian, and their children Merone and Gabriel. Bert was unique in his sense of humor, his compassion for others including animals, and his integrity. Arrangements by Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, Inc.
