Montgomery County Police have issued an arrest warrant for a former employee of Benny’s Bar & Grill in Potomac, who is suspected of phoning death threats to the restaurant’s owner. Denise Edmond, 30, of Beltsville, is suspected of obstructing the free exercise of religious beliefs by threat of force and telephone misuse in an incident Aug. 7.
Benny Fischer, owner of the restaurant, hung an Israeli and American flag outside of his restaurant. At 2:41 a.m. on Aug. 7, Fischer received a phone call on his cell phone from a blocked number, according to Montgomery County Police. The anonymous caller “made several threats to harm the owner and made anti-Semitic remarks,” the police report continued.“The suspect also told him to take his Israeli flag down from the restaurant.”
“Using phone records, detectives were able to identify the suspect as Edmond,” the report continued. “Edmond has knowledge of the warrant and investigators are attempting to make arrangements with her to turn herself in to police.”
The charges are categorized under the law as misdemeanors and carry a maximum sentence of three years and a $5,000 fine, according to Blanca Kling, public information officer for Montgomery County Police. Ramon Korionoff, public affairs director for the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, said that when charges are made, his office will handle the case.
