Jewish News, which serves greater Phoenix and Northern Arizona, has signed an agreement with Mid-Atlantic Media to manage the newspaper’s day-to-day operations. Mid-Atlantic Media publishes Washington Jewish Week. The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Phoenix, which assumed ownership of the Jewish News in July will continue to own the Arizona publication under the new management arrangement.
Mid-Atlantic Media, which has similar affiliations with The Jewish Chronicle of Pittsburgh and theJewish Exponent of Philadelphia, started with the Jewish News on December 1st. Mid-Atlantic Media is also the publisher of Baltimore Jewish Times.
Under the new partnership, Mid-Atlantic Media will have operational responsibilities for the newspaper, which includes subscription management, promotion and editorial management. Phoenix-based reporters and freelancers will still provide local news content; advertising services remain locally managed in Phoenix as well.
“When the Foundation agreed to accept ownership of Jewish News, our goal was that the Jewish communities of greater Phoenix and northern Arizona would continue to have a quality, local Jewish newspaper,” said Richard Kasper, Foundation president and CEO. “We believe this new relationship with Mid-Atlantic Media will provide Jewish News the leadership and resources it needs to flourish for years to come.” Kasper will serve as the publisher’s representative.
“I’ve always considered the paper to be one of the top Jewish publications in the country,” said Craig Burke, CEO of Mid-Atlantic Media. “All of us at Mid-Atlantic Media are excited to play a role in continuing that tradition with a primary focus to use Jewish News as a vehicle to build and strengthen the greater Phoenix Jewish community.”
