Hostess Brands recently emerged from bankruptcy, which means Wonder Bread is back on the shelves.
Remember Wonder Bread? It’s hard to forget the fluffy artificial American sandwich staple of the 20th Century. But now, it’s going kosher.
The Orthodox Union recently announced that it’s certifying Wonder Bread products in regions of the U.S. If the product bears an OU symbol, it has been certified. While it’s unclear where kosher Wonder Bread will hit shelves, the Orthodox Union has stated it will not be everywhere.
So what does this all mean? For kosher eaters who still eat white bread, let alone Wonder Bread, this is great. In this day and age though, bread made with whole wheat and whole grains has gained popularity, due to its numerous health benefits. Furthermore, there are also quite a few brands with popular dark bread options that have provided kosher options, such as Arnold Premium Breads.
The question is, what will the Orthodox Union begin certifying kosher next? Twinkies and Ho Hos?
