Cushions are being set on sanctuary chairs. Paint is being spread on the walls. Dust is being swept from newly laid hardwood floors. Adas Israel Congregation is speeding through its finishing touches to its major Visions of Renewal renovations to make certain everything is perfect for the High Holidays. Don’t be mistaken — these renovations are not simply superficial. The congregation thought about where Jews are seeking spirituality outside of the synagogue and found ways to bring them in. An example is their new Beit Midrash, where international thought leaders will teach in a modern coffee bar setting.
