Neighbors star Zac Efron has no regrets about revealing his drug and alcohol addictions in a recent Hollywood Reporter feature. The 26-year-old actor recently stopped by NBC’s Today and talked to Matt Lauer about the relief he’s felt since.
“Actually, it was a weight off my chest. It was great. It was a fantastic time. It was a rough year,” he said. “It’s kind of funny: Neighbors is such a great icing on the cake for all of this. I was able to kind of channel all of that and put it back into this movie. I feel great. I feel really blessed to be here working with this group of group of guys. I couldn’t be better right now. I’m really excited.”
Efron also told THR that he’s joined Alcoholics Anonymous and has been seeing a therapist. “”Without those moments where you feel like your lowest, it’s impossible to appreciate the high ones,” he told Lauer. “But I sit here in front of you today much happier and healthier than I’ve probably ever been.”
Neighbors—which centers on a young couple with a newborn who run into trouble when they move next door to a fraternity house—also stars Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne and Dave Franco. The Nicholas Stoller-directed comedy hits theaters Friday.
