David Henry Goodman, of North Bethesda, passed away on Feb. 18. He was 82. Dr. Goodman attended the Hebrew Academy and Roosevelt High School before graduating from the University of Pennsylvania and the George Washington University School of Medicine. He then served in the Army at Madigan General Hospital at Fort Lewis, Wash., where he was chief of the adult clinic and attained the rank of major. He was an honor graduate of the Medical Field Service School. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Dr. Goodman joined the faculty at George Washington University School of Medicine in 1971 as an assistant professor. He advanced through the ranks becoming emeritus clinical professor of medicine. In 2012 he was awarded the AOA Honor Medical Society Award as the outstanding volunteer clinical member.

David was a past president and dedicated lifetime member of B’nai Israel Congregation in Rockville. He served on the board of overseers of the Rabbinical School of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and also served on the board of directors of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.

David Goodman was the beloved husband of Elaine Goodman; loving father of Andy (Lisa) Goodman, Natalie (Jeffrey a”h) Fowler and Ruthie (Richard) White. He is also survived by grandchildren, Adam (Yuchao), Mathew, Nichole, Kaitlin, Corey and Casey; and great-grandchild, Alexander. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Reuben and Ida Goodman; and his brothers, Irvin and Bernard Wolfson.
